ALEXIS KARPETSKY WORKSHOP
Old Harbor Distilling Co.
San Diego has become known as the micro-brewery capital and it was only natural for Old Harbor Distilling Company to choose an existing 7,500 sf warehouse in East Village for their craft spirits operation. The very first distillery to be proposed within downtown city limits, Old Harbor will be producing whiskey, gin, coffee liquor and other spirits through imported distilling equipment, custom built by German-based Kothe Distilling Technologies. The tenant improvement included new fermentation and distillation areas, bottling station, wooden barrel and grain storage, offices, and an entry tasting room. Setting precedence for future projects alike, the project underwent an extensive review process by governing agencies resulting in the development of a "guide" for plan reviewer officials to assess from. Other improvements included extensive electrical and plumbing work, new stairwell and entry ramp, new thicken slabs under distilling equipment, restroom remodel, and installation of new hvac and exhaust systems. Old Harbor Distilling Co. will be in operation fall 2014.
